For everyone who wasn't able to attend the evening at NYU's Deutsches Haus, here's the taping of our lovely evening. Big thanks again to Amanda and Deb and Martin and to all of you who came!

And I can’t stop thinking: how on earth can Amanda Hesser be so thin as the foodie she is! #justatinybitjealous… 😉

You all are beautiful. Thanks for the video! Luisa, I have been reading your book before bed and am swept away. The way you write about reading as an only child is striking a chord, too.

So happy to still be able to see/hear this! I would’ve loved to attend but had a course to go to that evening. Thanks for posting this, you’ve been an inspiration in an understated way (I mean that in the best way possible… not someone who inspires by looking up to them, but someone who inspires by identifying with them… hope that comes across in the right way!). Keep up the writing!

oh! so wonderful. It’s so nice to put a voice and rhythm to your written words. This was such a great way to spend nap time, it almost felt indulgent. Thank you for that.

Thanks so much for sharing. I’ve read your blog forever, but never comment. Based on your comments, just realized that I should. Before the moderator suggested that your book become a film, I was already imagining it and thinking that Drew Barrymore should play you. Something about your mannerisms, personality . . . Again, love your blog, loved seeing and hearing you in person. I’m off to buy your book and look forward to the film.

Thank you for posting this video. Enjoyed it very much. I too am an avid reader since childhood, still have my collection of Laura Ingalls Wilder books. I also collect cookbooks (have 400+). On another note, my friends mother is from Kassel, Germany and I was thinking of making her one of your recipes that call for prune plums. Is there another type of plum that will work or does it have to be that kind? I live in southern Louisiana and some fruits are hard to come by. By the way, when I read in your book that your father almost move here with you when you were small, it made me wonder what would your food history have been like as I think we have some of the most amazing food in the country.

So happy to see you all together! I only follow 4 food blogs/sites religiously, and to see three of the people behind them together is a real treat. (The fourth is Molly’s Orangette.) Love you all, both your food and your gentle, funny and supportive voices quietly cheering us on in the kitchen and in life.

About your confusion regarding baking powder and Backpulver in Germany: here is a pretty good explanation of the difference (with more links for further reading, if one is interested)
    http://de.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090414001423AAJ1mPr
Unfortunately it is in German, I hope you can understand some of it(or someone translates)
I also bring back baking powder and soda from visits to the US. Those I use in American baking recipes. However if I bake according to a German recipe – and there are a few good ones out there – the German stuff works well for me.

Prune plums are great for that recipe because they have a relatively low water content compared to regular plums. But why don’t you give it a try with the plums you’ve got? If worse comes to worst, it’ll be a little soggy.

A question that I’ve been meaning to ask for a while, and not run across the answer, is:
Do you and Max speak German to each other? English? French? I’m sure you use all of them, depending on topics, but surely one of them is dominant in your relationship? So curious, don’t know why.
Thanks for sharing yourself with all of us. Love your recipes.

Thank you so much for posting this! Really enjoyed your comment about the mishmash identity. I can so relate — my mother is from Berlin, met my father when they were in the Paris Bar on Kantstrasse while he was in the US Army in Berlin during the Cold War. My family lived Italy, Germany and the US.

Have you ever taken a food photography class? I think you would benefit from it — I love your blog but your photos could be better. All you need is someone to help you with lighting, composition. I think that would go a long way in making the food look appetizing. Your a fabulous writer and cook — you should have photos that enhance your talent!

What a fabulous evening. Would have loved to attend – although living in London, it would have been a little tricky. Any plans to do the same kind of event this side of the pond? I check in on your blog from time to time and I must say that you have a wonderful ways with words that totally grip the readers attention. I must get a hold of a copy of your book – congrats on that btw! I read that you are a little nervous about cooking Indian food – thought you might like some encouragement so check out my blog as I tend to often cook with spices. All the best Torie (www.chilliandmint.com)

Thank you for sharing the video, you’re lovely! I enjoyed the chapter you read very much. My kids are just a bit older than yours, I am Italian, my husband is Swedish and we live in the german speaking part of Switzerland…your breakfast dilemma sounded very familiar! I was hoping to download your book from Amazon UK right away and start reading, but I could not purchase the Kindle version…it says ‘Pricing information not available’. Any chance this could be changed?

    hi luisa:
i have been reading your blog for years, read your book, but have never commented here. imagine how lucky i felt to be able to go and see you and your panel-mates at deutches haus that evening! i was really under the weather, but dragged my friend over to be able to hear/see in person the voice i have followed, laughed with, cried with, and loved for so many years. you are just as charming, adorable, and lovely as i had imagined. after we left, both my friend and i said ‘let’s go to berlin, please, so we can have an excuse to ask luisa for travel tips’!!!!! that said, i will definitely be commenting now!

Thank you so much for sharing this event with your readers. I have been a fan of your writing and the structure of your blog “in covering Wednesday food articles” sets it apart from the rest. But seeing you “in person”, I am so impressed by your presence, thoughtful answers, articulate comments, etc. Definitely a fun lunch hour watching this event and putting a voice and face to your blog.

Someone at my publishing house has looked into the issue (they also hadn’t heard of this happening before) and their system shows no rights restrictions on the ebook. They ask that you contact Amazon directly to see if you can get more specific information on what the precise problem might be. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this!

I wrote to Amazon.co.uk to ask why I couldn’t purchase the Kindle Book and they wrote that ‘unfortunately the book “My Berlin Kitchen: A Love Story (with Recipes)” you are interested in is not currently available for Kindle. I understand that you have contacted the publisher of the book. I’ve now passed your feedback in regard to this to the relevant department….’ They also have that link you can click “Tell the publisher you want to read this on Kindle” (or something similar) so I clicked that as well. Not sure if it helps!

That was just wonderful, Luisa! I’m so glad I waited to watch this until my baby was asleep and my husband was out of town so I could give it my full attention! I am also an avid follower (and former Berlin resident 🙂 who doesn’t often comment on the blogs I read, but I feel compelled to share with you just how lovely it was to put a voice to the words I so enjoy reading! Thank you for always writing/speaking from the heart; it is an absolute joy to read your stories, and the icing on the cake to “hear” you speak in person!
