It's a very long weekend here, what with Good Friday and Easter Monday, and the weather is promising to be duly wonderful. Max moves to a small town in western Germany next week for a new job, so this is my last week of waking up next to him every morning and going to sleep next to him every night, of having my constant companion to eat lunch with every day. To distract ourselves, we're going to this tulip show tomorrow to snap photos of all the crazy blooms and we're going to sit outside at a biergarten near our apartment in the evenings and toast to new beginnings.

Elsewhere,

Jeana's new blog on Korean cooking has me inspired. My favorite quote so far: "Don't use cayenne or western chilli powder. It will taste confusing."

"It was delicious while it lasted." Jay McInerney on Ferran Adrià.

Oh, to be a Californian with easy access to fresh backyard kumquats. Oh, then to make Kumquat Earl Grey marmalade.

Adam yells at his friend Patty, but it's all in the service of his readers. I, for one, am grateful, because now I know how to make a French 75.

Easy shrimp tostadas, be still my beating heart.

Molly likens tofu to foie gras, then follows up by posting her favorite way of eating it, braised with ground pork. It is on her Must-Eat Top Ten list and now it's at the top of my Must-Try, Like, Right Now list.

Have you ever heard of putting bread crumbs on ice cream? (Via home*economics.)

And finally, I guarantee that this reel of Martha Stewart bloopers will make you laugh out loud (via Kim Severson).

Have a lovely weekend, friends.

Saw kumquats at Frische Paradies yesterday. Don’t know if you have been there since the remodeling. It is in the style of many other Berlin supermarket remakes where even like ingredients, dairy, say, are scattered in numerous dissociated displays. One assumes that the goal is for customers to spend more money on items they come across while desperately trying to locate what they need. The result at FP is a distinctly less pleasant shopping experience (parking lot is also harder to maneuver). Gone is that feeling of sharing a special and secret source with many chefs in town. They have even installed a bar where you can order a drink and commune with fellow shoppers after the aggressive jostling. Admittedly, it was pre-Easter shopping… As always, love your postings!

Goodness, thanks for the link to the marmalade! I promise that it’s delicious.
For those interested, I also promise that I will update my blog again soon. The first six months of having a six-month-old have taken quite a toll on my free time and my blogging time. I DO make time to read the blogs of others, though, and enjoy yours very much.

That article on Ferran Adria and El Bulli was very inspiring. We’re architects who love to cook and my husband and I are fascinated by creativity that is everywhere and can inform everything one can do.
Love this week’s set of links; so thoughtfully curated. Thanks Luisa!

Thanks for your friday links. Re your crumbs on ice cream one thought you might like to hear of an ice cream with crumbs in it (as opposed to on it!)… Brown bread (aka soda bread) ice cream is very popular in Ireland and is not as strange as you might think! Yum yum yum.

My commitment to Easter is mainly limited to Osterbrot these days, but I can still get on board with the moral of the story: Peace be with you. 🙂

Luisa, those shrimp in the photo aren’t the same recipe as the ones in the tostada, are they? They look delicious!

Helen – that’s so sad to hear! I haven’t been since the remodel.
Katybelle – they’re not, actually. The ones in my photo were a little impromptu dinner-for-one the other night. 🙂

oh no! i have been in those awful distance situations with my (now) husband too often before. had to move to berlin to rectify it in fact 🙂 but i hope you both have a lovely solution in mind for the future, and that in the meantime the mornings/evenings/lunches will be bearable! i really empathize so dearly.

Hi Louisa! Just wanted to say I’m really enjoying these “Friday Link Love” posts. I had so much fun browsing through both Remedial Eating, and Dinner: A Love Story this weekend, and have already made (and posted) a recipe from RE. So thank you for these inspiring links 😉

Easter is over and I guess Max has left for his new job. Sorry to hear it, I imagine these first few days adjusting will be a little sad and lonely. Hope you are doing ok and that you will still get week ends together. And that you had lovely evenings at the Bier Gartens. Still loving your Friday posts.
