I’m suprised that everyone thinks that this is going to change everything, that somehow the sun shines brighter and the economy doesn’t suck anymore and everything will be peachy.
This isn’t the moment that defines us, it’s what we do with it. Will we all be able to come together & still be working at it next year at this time? Sadly I have my doubts, only time will tell. It’s up to the American people not the president to make things better and we can start by attitudess and work ethics. I however think this won’t happen and things will remain the same. I hope American’s prove me wrong and this is what they needed to make a change for the better individually.LikeLike

Yes, we did. Whenever I stop to think about it, I start crying all over again. So I’m trying to not think about it because the joy makes me hurt too much.

We are elated out here – it’s as much an ending as a beginning and I’m glad those last 8 years are ending. Wonderful to think that we can still see and elect the best person for the job.

Got up at 6 a.m. (CET) this morning, switched on the television and got misty-eyed. When does this ever happen? Of course, things won’t change overnight but this election IS historical. It gives people hope all over the world.

A great day indeed! No matter who you voted for, you have to admit that by having an outcome that has left so many Americans SO positive about the future is a wonderful thing, no matter what.
Attitude is everything. Whether you believe you will succeed or fail, you’re right. I’m sorry Susy. The rest of our hope and positive energy will help carry the pessimists, and hopefully change their attitudes as well.

I basically agree with Susy. To quote DuBois, I think: “a hope not hopeless but unhopeful”.Nevertheless, it is exciting to see so many people energized.

In response to Susy amd Ellen, I think that Obama said it best:
“What began twenty-one months ago in the depths of winter must not end on this autumn night. This victory alone is not the change we seek – it is only the chance for us to make that change. And that cannot happen if we go back to the way things were. It cannot happen without you.”
I’m hopeful that Barack Obama will be the leader who inspires us to roll up our sleeves and begin rebuilding this country after eight long dark years of social, economic, and moral decay. Obama alone can’t make this change a reality, but he can be the leader who inspires us to bring about this change ourselves.LikeLike

I am so happy you did it! It looks like Obama has really united America. Well done!!!

I still can’t wrap my head around it! In my adult life, I have had few reasons to feel proud to be an American, until now. What an amazing night – and WHAT an amazing leader.
P.S. Well said, Ben.LikeLike

As an American living abroad, tired of hearing people (somewhat gleefully) talk about the United States being “on its knees,” Obama is a blessing. The world respects him. He represents the starry-eyed ‘American Dream’ that even members of other nations who are cynical about US hegemony can’t help but look at with glints of respect, optimism, and admiration.
Of course, intention is nothing and action is everything – that goes without saying. But for now, he gives the world hope. On that point alone, I am grateful.LikeLike

Oh, wow!!! I am floating on air. Free at last from the shackles of a Bush administration. From what I’m hearing (and feeling) we, the people, are going to back this wonderful, wonderful man 100% .I’d like to think that those who thought of themselves as “us” against “them”, are now going to morph into one big “WE”!!!! Hallelujia!

I just have to insert that for those who are less hopeful and not so much rejoicing, you might think about those for whom the election alone represents a mighty milestone. My husband’s family are African-Americans. His grandmother, our “Nana,” certainly never thought to see this in her lifetime. I only wish my own mother had lived to see this moment, this era. Think about the fact that only 8 months or so ago, well-meaning people were still saying that it couldn’t happen, that it wasn’t yet time.
It’s true that the struggle is just beginning, but this is a call to action, and cynicism at this point won’t serve anyone well, neither here nor in the world community. We would all do well to read or re-read Dr. King’s Letter from Birmingham Jail. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.LikeLike

How right Suzy was back then. Things are much clearer in March 09. Tax and Spend is the same in any color. It’s not about black or white, it’s just about business as usual…tax cheats, lobbyists, and more. Looks like the only change will be the change taken from my pocket.
