The huge news in our little household this week is that Max, my hero, got a job near Berlin and is moving back home this summer! It's all terribly exciting. Tomorrow we're dressing up for the first time since our wedding and going to the wedding celebration of our dear friend who married us – I can't wait. After months of wearing a mommy uniform, I'm thrilled just to put on a dress and high heels.

Elsewhere,

Have you ever had Indian coleslaw? Sign me up.

A fascinating piece on being an apple detective.

Crunchy, creamy cucumber avocado salad.

An incredible food memory of a family reuniting after the Vietnam War.

The very funny Nicholas Day on sweet potatoes.

I could watch Jean-Georges cooking all the live-long day.

Dreaming of attending this week of cooking classes on Kea in the Cyclades.

Love that April Bloomfield's pea soup calls for frozen peas.

Selling ground poultry is almost unheard of in Germany; after reading this report, I'm glad to hear it. Stay safe, people!

And finally, a little interview on date nights I did on Loop de Luxe (plus a discount code for 25% off if you're tempted by the gorgeous store: WEDCHEF).

Have a good weekend, folks!

I loved that post over on The Ravenous Couple too! They share a very similar story to my husband and his family but they ended up here in Perth, Western Australia instead of America. So much courage, I cry every time I hear their stories. xx

My mama is from western India and that is how she made her cabbage salad (my mom had no use for the word slaw). Except, she also added some fine sliced onions and tomatoes, and some cumin to the tempering oil. The coconut was always fresh.
Good news for your family! All the distance must have been so tough..
    Happy weekend!

How exciting! What good news for your family. As for the pea soup, check out the one in Ina Garten’s Foolproof; it’s similar and so dang delicious.

How wonderful that your husband will be home!
While the pea soup sounds interesting, it’s the cucumber and avocado salad that is calling to me.

I don’t think Hugo will ever see him on weeknights as he probably won’t be home from work most days before H’s bedtime – but mornings!! Something both H AND I are looking forward to (but especially me :))
