Despite the best intentions, the closest I came to cooking in Maine was pouring myself a bowl of cereal. So I’ve got little to report, food-wise, besides some tales of delicious cinnamon-scented blueberry pie, lobster rolls gobbled up while overlooking the ocean, and a home-cooked amalgam of two Bourdain steak recipes yesterday in Providence that was even better than my meal at Les Halles.

The blog will be quiet for a few more days while we’re out of town for a wedding in Vermont this weekend. Consider it a mourning period now that the Germans are no longer in the running for the World Cup. Heart-breaking, I tell you.

    The mood in Germany is positive again. Most of the people say that we saw the best and youngest team we ever had and that we will win the European Championship in two years time. We keep our fingers crossed the Klinsi will remain the Teamchef, but the chances disappear with each day he doesn’t say yes. The flags on the cars and houses are still there and I’m sure that the fans in Stuttgart will give the team a good time during todays reception and the ‘little final’ tomorrow evening.
    Enjoy Vermont! I only have positive memories of my New England holiday a long time ago.

    Yes, please tackle them in your own kitchen. The lobster rolls thing- I need to know. Only ever had one once, but it was very convincing. I don’t know what’s in it apart from lobster…but I’m wanting to make some.

    Kaffeebohne – thanks for the update. The worst part about Germany losing was the fact that I couldn’t be there to partake in the national gasp of disbelief! Here’s to the EM in ’08!
    Nicole – it’s funny, that article actually puzzled me a bit, if only because I kind of felt that Judy’s book came out several years ago and had been covered by media outlets extensively in years past. I adore the book, and the roast chicken salad, and made it to much fanfare for a dinner party in the days before the existence of the blog. It is a fabulous recipe and works perfectly. I can’t recommend it enough.
    Demetrius – yikes, I missed your comment before leaving Vermont! Oh well, just one more reason to go back. What a gorgeous state.

    Lindy – it will be mission to track down a lobster roll recipe from either the NY or LA Times and make it. I swear! Until then, I will make do with lobster pasta a la Julavits. Stay tuned.

    Lobster rolls are the one food I’ve never had but dream of at least once a week. Here in Los Angeles, we don’t have the luxury of eating lobster tossed in mayo and stuffed in a bun…..but I wish we did! Lobster is still a special-occasion seafood around here.
    I’m also happy to hear that you’ve been staying away from the stove since I’ve been pretty much the same way all summer. Enjoy your vacation!!

    No need for lobster roll recipes. Just get totally fresh Maine lobster (curse the otherwise fabulous Whole Foods for deciding to ditch carrying live lobsters!). Cut freshly cooked lobster (boiled) into large chunks. Add very little mayo. Pile into old-fashioned hot dog roll and enjoy. For best lobster in southern Maine, go to Bayleys lobster pound in Pine Point!!
