What a week it’s been. Books were read, new swimsuits were purchased, berries were picked, families were bonded, mosquitos attacked, a wedding was attended, much suntanning occurred, and it all happened far too fast. I’m a lucky girl to have such an idyllic haven in Italy. Saying goodbye is absolutely wretched. In an attempt to tell you about the past week with any semblance of eloquence, I’ll let the pictures do most of the talking.

Urbinoarch
A cloudless sky with a Renaissance arch.

500
Our car’s big day!

Berries
Juicy berries from the garden.

Famiglia
A four-generational family portrait.

Latorre
A candle at sunset, overlooking the fertile valley.

Pizzabianca
Chewy, larded pizza bianca, strewn with fragrant rosemary and coarse salt.

Urbino
Urbino takes my breath away every single time I come around the bend in the road.

Wedding
A seriously gorgeous wedding party.

Wow, gorgeous photos. Looks like a wonderful trip – how jealous I am of people who have family to visit in Italy! How does yours feel about honorary adoption? 😉

Absolutely stunning! I am trying my hardest to not be filled with jealousy and longing, because I am so glad that you had such a lovely trip and seem (at least in your writing) much more relaxed and happy. Glad your trip was not only beautiful but restorative as well – and welcome back!

I love that in the wedding party photo people are talking, gesturing. One can almost hear what they’re saying.
The language of image, of heart, and home are splendid. It’s great you have a place for soul nourishment.
    welcome back.

It is so lovely I can hardly believe it is real. It must have been so hard to leave. You were missed. Welcome back.

    Ben tornata, Luisa!
It looks and sounds like you had a glorious time and enjoyed every bit of your time there.
Italy has that way. It whizzes right by you and you just don’t know where the time went.
I guess it’s an excuse to go back again very soon … and I hope you get to do that!

So beautiful, I envy your being in such a lovely place. How I would love to be there. I can’t even be annoyed that you beat us in the last round of the World Cup!

I’m so happy you’re home! Welcome back, and I’m glad you had such a beautiful trip.
By the way, I’m in the middle of reading “Heat,” and for a few minutes yesterday I considered quitting my job and moving to Italy!

Melissa – something could CERTAINLY be arranged. 😉
Leah – thank you! I’m filled with jealousy and longing myself for the folks that can live there all summer long.
Shuna – I’m glad you saw that in the photo. I love it exactly for that candid, caught-in-the-act moment where everyone is talking and happy and no one is paying attention to the photographer. As it should be!
Lindy – thank you. It feels oddly like a dream to me, now. Real, but barely. Too short!
Julie – thank you. My pictures are rather pathetic, even. It’s even prettier in real life.
Ivonne – so, so true. Why is it that the best places have that fleeting feeling?
    Jessika – thank you.
Radish – Kicking and screaming, they had to drag me away.
Lushlife – sssh… I was actually sort of rooting for Australia in that game! You see, I’m an awful Italian national: my loyalties actually lie with the German team.
Ann – it could possibly become my mission in life to do nothing but attempt to recreate that pizza in my home kitchen and then sell it to all the unsuspecting folks who have no idea what nirvana is until they start chewing on a piece of that stuff.
Leland – thank you, my dear! You’re sweet. I’m so glad you’re loving Heat as much as I did. Isn’t it just addictive?
